Common Building Industry Accidents

Within the building industry much action is continuously taking place, so it is not uncommon for workplace accidents to take place. Some of the most common types of building industry accidents that take place are welding accidents, electrical accidents, construction site falls, fires and explosions, and trench collapses.

Welding Accidents

Anyone who is performing welding activities on a job site should always have proper certification and experience. Many times welding accidents cause skin injuries and since there is a large number of accidents that can happen relating to welding, the time it takes for a person to recover from a welding accident depends on what type of injury they sustained.

Many times welders are injured in ways relating to the gases, high temperatures, and toxic fumes they are exposed to. All of these exposures are definitely harmful and all precautions should be taken to help ensure a welder exposed to these elements at a minimal level.

Electrical Accidents

Almost 350 construction workers lose their life every year due to electrical accidents. The most common causes of electrical deaths are steam accidents, power line contact, and electric shock. These types of accidents seem to occur more often for workers who are employed within jobs where they use scaffolding and cranes.

The OSHA association has a list of guidelines that are supposed to be followed by any worker who works within the electrical industry; however, these guidelines are often overlooked and this is when most of the electrical accidents occur.

Construction Site Falls

Over 300 construction site workers are killed every year from construction site falls. Almost all of these types of deaths are preventable if construction workers would follow any and all safety guidelines that have been set in place. Crane falls, elevator shaft falls, and roof related falls are some of the most common types of construction site falls.

Fires and Explosions

Over 5,000 workers are injured every year by fires and/or explosions and over 200 are killed every year. Due to these high numbers in injuries and deaths there has been special safety guidelines set into place to help prevent accidents that happen that are related to fires and explosions.

All constructions site workplaces should have a fire plan set out that all workers are aware of. This helps workers to successfully evacuate a workplace in the event that a fire or explosion takes place. Fire and explosion accidents seem to be some of the worst painful for construction site workers to endure, and many of those who are injured due to fires and explosions end up losing their life or being injured for the remainder of their life.

Trench Collapses

Any place that utility workers work there are usually trenches present. Any time a trench is being dug or worked within it is imperative that the workers follow proper safety measures to prevent trench accidents. Proper safeguards must always be place when worker are working within a trench so that the trench will not collapse on the workers.
